No image today people for I didn’t really make any mistakes fortunately. First 100% day I’ve had in a LONG time but boy was it nice. I did have a couple of minor mistakes that I may have handled differently (thus the EPT > 0.00) but even those plays had a lot of other things going for them. One helluva decline today.

My swing trades performed very well as I had 2 shorts & one long.

The stocks for this week are

MAS Short
SHLD Short
TJX Long

I’m kicking myself now because I had my picks narrowed down to 4 but MAS & FDO had very similar patterns so I only wanted to pick one of them. I chose MAS which is now breaking down, but FDO is down over 6% this week while MAS is only down 2.6% :0< Ah well, hindsight 20/20. SHLD is performing wonderfully and TJX is at breakeven.

For those of you who would be interested in subscribing to my free weekly stock picks & analysis <>Click Here. I don’t spam; In fact the only emails you’ll ever receive from me will be those telling you when I am personally opening closing a swing trade.

Other than that there’s not much to cover today. I’ll be looking for some sort of morning correction tomorrow but have no idea how sustained or long in duration it will be. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a gap up & after that anything could happen.

7-12-2006 Futures Play of the Day

Look at this 5-minute chart of the Russel 2k. From open till 11:00 AM there was high-volume & persistent selling which took the markets steadily lower with no successful pullbacks. Then it went flat. This is totally normal after such a move not to mention during the lunchtime hours.

Price stayed in a very tight and controlled upward channel with low volume. I have highlighted the volume and traced out the channel that I used for my entry (marked by the red arrow).

At the close of the 12:15 bar the 5-minute TRIX turned red, that was signal # 1. The following bar triggered my Sell-Stop as price broke down below the channel; This was signal #2. The close of this bar fired off a Vol- confirmation for signal #3.

The next 60-minute support level wasn’t until 708 so I settled in and played a game of cards while I waited. A couple hours later I took profits as my target was hit and in 1 play made back twice as much as I lost during the whole of my horrible day yesterady.

You gotta love this job!

Now this is much better. There sure were some beautiful trend plays that occured today. I’m going to highlight one of them in my next post and post it along with the rest of my Futures Trades of the Day.

Unlike yesterday, I very much felt on my game today. And boy was my mouth salivating around noon when the markets were slowly channeling higher on decreased volume!

I had a great trend-trading day today but my scalps once again lost money. But I am mainly just Sim-trading the scalps; At least until their equity curve turns over for a longer period of time.

I am pleased with the day and am interested to see what will be in store for tomorrow.

All I can say about today is :-(

It was by far one of my worst days ever as measured by the mere quantity of mental errors that I made today. I wasn’t feeling well this morning and I guess that that’s what I get for trading anyway. I was at lunch when the big afternoon rally took off so I missed the most profitable move of the day.

What’s worse is that today my streak of 18 consecutive days without a losing day with my trend plays came to an end. It was close and it would not have come to an end had I taken profits from one of my trades sooner, but not only did I watch the profits evaporate, but I then was silly enough to take a full stop on the position. That was easily the difference in my day and despite all the other mistakes I made, I would have finished at just about break-even had I not been so stubborn and tunnel-visioned (I wanted it to get to the target that I deemed it ought get to despite 3 very potent warning signs telling me that it was going to reverse).

Don’t argue with the markets.

I’m going to go to bed early tonight and come back strong tomorrow. Just wasn’t on my game today.

Day Trading Time Clock Downloads

Atomic Clock Sync

For traders out there who rely heavily on short-term candlestick & bar chart patterns, it is easy to become conflicted sometimes about whether or not to enter a trade now or wait until the bar/candle closes. We’ve always been told to wait until it closes for confirmation but sometimes it is possible to get a head start on a move if you enter a few seconds earlier before the next candle opens.

My problem was that I could never keep my computer clock’s time in sync with the exchange time so I never knew how much time was really left until the next 1, 2, or 5 minute bar opened; It was a chronic guessing game.

But then I talked to my friend Bill over at Viper Speed Trading and he recommended I download the Atomic Clock Sync utility. Its a very small (and FREE) program that allows you to ping the world-time server and automatically adjust your PC’s clock to the millisecond so that it matches the exchanges around the world.

I can’t recommend the utility enough as now my charts are always up to date & I don’t have to do any more guessing!

You can learn more about it and download it from WorldTimeServer.com

Enjoy!

Topmost Clock

So after I stopped having to worry about my clock being on time I ran into a different problem. It just seemed as if my clock’s location wasn’t very convenient for quick glances in the midst of scanning charting setups on multiple monitors. So I did a quick search and found this handy little program called Topmost Clock.

What it does is allow you to put a little transparent clock anywere you’d like on your computer. I place mine on my main computer up at the top of my monitor right in between the 2 charts that I spend the majority of my time watching during the day. This has greatly reduced my eye strain when making multiple quick glances at the time as it is now in the same field of view as the charts I spend most of my time watching anyway.

This program is also free. You can learn more about it and Downloaded It Here via Download.com.
