I didn’t make any scalp trades today. They were all trend or counter-trend plays and as such my win-rate wasn’t nearly as high as it had been. That being said, I made a couple of order-entry errors that account for 2 of the 3 “BAD” trades. I’m using NinjaTrader to enter my trades and while I love the interface, I’m having a recurring problem when using it with my laptop. Since my laptop doesn’t have a middle-mouse button I have programmed it so that when I click in the upper left-hand corner of my touchpad to act as a middle-mouse button.

What this allows me to do is to place a Stop-entry order instead of a limit order. The problem is that often-times it still enters a limit order and I get filled immediately for a play that was meant to only be entered on a breakout above/under a certain area. I was able to manage the trades well today and not get hurt by them, but this kind of mistake cannot continue to happen for it adds unnecessary risk to my trading.

The key to avoiding this mistake is to test the mouse-button in Sim-mode first before placing any live trades.

One day I’ll learn…
