3-14-2006 Daily Stock Pick Results

This afternoon’s breakout was a scalper’s dream. Once the QQQQ broke the morning’s high above 41.00 there was nothing to stop it from running to 41.50.

As for my picks on the other hand…there really weren’t many standouts today.

SGR & VNT were 2 good short setups that just kinda stalled on me due to the bullish nature of the markets today. But SGR is setting up an hourly Double Top to watch for tomorrow.

I ended up closing out FMD on the 5 min climactic runnup to 45.75 at the end of the day, but have to report 45.00 here as the closing price. It was a solid hit for the day

HMY has some nice FT today as well but all of that was due to this morning’s action.

Everything else just sort of piddled around all day. Today was another one of those days where I made more scalping than I did from my stock picks. But a slight win beats a slight loss so I’ll take it.

What a Short Squeeze Looks Like

While checking out Jeff White’s blog I came accross an old post of his about Short Squeeze. If you’ve been trading long enough then I’m sure you’ll recognize this pattern:

So always try to be wary when shorting a stock, especially after an extended move down on an inter-day basis (ie: swing trade) & get out quickly.

I have a negative bias for today but still have a diverse set of picks in case I am wrong like yesterday. I have found this to be the best way of handling these markets.

*** A Note for Today & from this point forward, “On Open” plays are now to be played via a 5 min breakaway or reversal with a stop over the 30 minute high or the high of Pre-Market trading (whichever is higher)… I’ll try to come up with a better notatation as now “On Open” seems rather confusing. Another point, if within that 5 minutes price advances in the direction of the target such that the Reward : Risk would be less than 1:1 based on where the stop would have to be, then the play will be SCRATCHED.
