2-28-2006 Daily Stock Pick Results

Had a solid day today. And for any of you who were following HNZ today, boy did you ever get a bounce! After I posted my picks this morning, it ended up going down even farther to be the epitome of the kind of play my new system looks for. I got in within $.25 of my stop and rode it all the way up to yesterday’s close. Single play made my day, the rest was just gravy.

The DT calls did well w/ 2/3 being profitable. I’m trying to shy away from them more as I establish more concrete criteria but occaisionally I will be throwing them in the mix.

I’ve been unable to do my typical post-market routine this evening due to some things here at home I had to take care of so my picks may be limited tomorrow. I’ll do my best to get in as much analysis as possible in the morning do see what I can dig up.

Hmmm, i just caught site of a typo from this morning’s picks. IVAC should have had a target of 21.36 not 23.36…I hope you were able to catch that in time as it was the 2nd most profitable play I made today. Sorry about that, I’ll try to be more careful going forward but how much do you expect from a free website :)

The PMS today is -7 .. I do have a downward bias for today, at least for the time being, but again the market can change my mind really quickly :)

I will also be watching HNZ today for a possible bounce/Fade play but didn’t want to put it on the list as I’m not sure when/where/if the bounce will occur. Just out of curiosity, I’m going to start a Top 5 Picks of the Day List to see if over time they outperform the group as a whole. If there’s anything to it, I’ll start posting those as well, but for the time being, I’m going to keep that non-public as I have no evidence that they would mean anything since everytime I’ve tried a similar ranking system in the past there has been no significant difference. Time will tell if this time is different.

Also for those of you who are new readers, you might recognize the old notation for SNDA, SPLS, & HSP: “DT-L” …If you’re unfamiliar with how to trade these picks then I’d simply ignore them for now. I decided to use the old notation for these picks because it is quite useful when I have an indication that a signficant correction may occur, but can’t narrow down the range enough to where I would be able to make a reliable call via the new notation. See the old“My Stock Picks Explained” page for details about the old notation as it would appear I have yet to update it with the new notation…one more thing to do…

Hope you all have a great trading day~!

Hmmm.. Despite the positive results, I would not really consider my day very succesful today. Only 2/8 picks that triggered made money and were it not for VPHM, the day would have been a total loss. I was able to score a quick R-Unit this morning via a QQQQ scalp so overall my day was respectable but I did make some mistakes today:

NVTL was not that bad of a play, it just failed to make it to my target. I really thought that 8.74 was conservative given a 8.53 breakout…I was wrong and perhaps pushing my luck given that weekly support at the 8.50 level had been broken pretty solidly. I may or may not have made this play again.

HRB was the worst call of the day as the fade attempt at the $23 weekly support area had been severely weakened by multiple re-testings over the past 2 years. I should have passe here and paid the full price for my mistake.

FCL was also a play that I don’t think I would normally take. While yes there was a price-void above the 41.40 area this is by no means the clean breakaway setup that I usually look for. Yesterday’s inside bar was not the best continuation setup since A.) it was on lower volume than Big Red before it and B.) This kind of continuation setup is best played after a 1-2 quick Big Green bars followed by a small red that doesn’t retrace too far. So many of my criterea were violated here that means that I’m becoming too loose. I will really try to tighten up on my entry criteria going forward this week as this is my 2nd day in a row of only 25% accuracy.

The PMS today is +3 which I’m learning doesn’t mean anything unless it is +/- 10 or more. Below are the stock plays for the day that and I will be watching. I do have a slight upward bias today, but I am by no means married to it. Will just have to wait and see what happens.

2-24-2006 Stock Pick Results

What a rough day! I wish I had just sat this one out to be honest. Finally had my first bad day with this new system. Today lost me 2.20 R-Units. Things were all over the board for the entire day. I started down with the quick loss via NTES, then everything else was just a hodge-podge with half of the remaining positions up, half down with winners slightly edging out the losers keeping my net hovering just around break-even for most of teh day. In early afternoon, I was up just about 1 unit, but then heading into close everything reversed on me leaving me wishing I had closed everything out.

But still, hard to complain given that this was one of my best weeks ever overall.
